Black Slate slabs
by Map Slate are the ideal finishing touches for bathrooms and kitchens, adding real designer appeal to any decor. Slate is a durable and versatile stone with a beautiful appearance, making it the perfect way to bring natural elements into the home. Wherever it is used, its impermeable and resistant characteristics deliver a tough surface. Map Slate started its life in the Italian valley of Fontanabuona, a cradle of ancient slate working. Today it's still quarried and worked there by skilled craftsmen with a passion for traditional methods.
Once quarried, slate sheets
are split into slabs and layers of different thicknesses and sizes. The only tool needed for this is the simple chisel, this works with faults in the slate opening it up along natural split lines. As a natural material
and surfaces slate
is perfect as it combines tough qualities with a beautifully solid finish. Part of the charm of working with black slate slabs is that this finish is always unique. No two slate floors or surfaces will ever be identical.
Compact back slate slabs
are created from high-quality black slate and worked by dedicated craftsmen. They give an attractive surface that is delicate to the touch, yet waterproof and highly resistant to acid based products. The slabs are guaranteed not to change colour over time and can be easily cut to size making them the perfect interior choice for skirting boards, window sills, kitchen and bathroom surfaces as well as for highly-desirable custom built shower trays or feature steps to sunken baths. Black slate slabs
can also be crafted into unique desktops or kitchen tables that complement a work surface. They also look stunning when combined with other natural materials to make a feature patio table or bench.
